is a small quiet and peaceful village located in San Gabriel, some twenty kilometers
northeast along the old Panamericana road. Its population is about 5,700 inhabitants
and its altitude 3,000 m. The village is surrounded by a rich exuberant highland vegetation, including the infamous Frailejones,
which can grow up to 2 meters in height. The area is actually protected by El Angel Ecological Reserve (Reserva
Ecológica El Angel) since 1992, covering approximately 16,000 hectares of amazing páramo. Andean Condors have
also been seen around this area becoming one of the country's few places where you can appreciate this magnificent endemic
Andean treasure. Tours to El Angel Reserve are also available in the village through Fundación El Angel, who provide
