Macará is a small pleasant quiet town on the border, less busy than Huaquillas and another alternative to cross to Peru. Macara's main activity is agriculture, especially rice. There are several bus connections to other destinations such as: Sullana and Piura (Peruvian coast).

Parador Turistico.- Located on the Pamamericana, close to the center.

Frequent buses available from Loja and Cariamanga cooperatives, leaving every day from Macará to Loja (5 to 6 hours), the ticket cost is around US$6.00.
 Ecuador and Galapagos Travel Macará to La Tina border
Over the Macará river lies the international bridge approx. 3 km from the village. There is a frequent taxi and pickup service (US$1.00). Frequent bus and minibuses run La Tina to Sullana at the Peruvian side (3 1/2 hours) for about US$4.

Ecuadorian immigration.- Here, the Ecuadorian immigration police will stamp your passport with an "exit" seal, if you're leaving the country. This procedure will last less than 15 minutes. If you're coming from Peru or entering back to Ecuador, ask the police officer in charge to stamp your passport for a 90 days tourist visa. Check also crossing to Peru through Huaquillas.

Peruvian immigration.- The Peruvian immigration Police is in Sullana (130 km from the International bridge).

Exchange.- Banco de Loja in Macará deals with Soles, as well as several money changers at the international bridge and in Macará.
