Montañita, is a small colorful rustic village situated approximately 4 km north of Manglaralto, known throughout Ecuador as the best beach for surfing, very popular with international and local surfers. It has a population of around 1,000 inhabitants. Water temperatures range from 56-68 degrees. The place holds surfing competitions the whole year round especially in the high season (December through April), when lots of people from Guayaquil and foreigners arrive to the village.

The sea in Montañita is OK (big waves though) 4 to 5 meters. But, always beware of stingrays close to the water's edge. If you get stung, there is a small hospital in Manglaralto that will treat you immediately. North to the main village is Baja Montañita in which most of the main surfing competitions take place.

Tourist information is available opposite the park in the Oficina de Reservaciones e Información Turística, run by PMRC, they also make reservations for lodging in private homes (See Manglaralto). For if you're interested on learning how to surf, there is a small surfing school, away from the ocean on the highway.

Hotel Montañita.- Is the biggest hotel in town located north of the village, on the beach with 36 rooms with private baths, swimming pool, parking and restaurant.

La Casa Blanca.- Is a comfortable place to stay in Montanita. Rooms have private baths, mosquito net, fan and hammocks. Some rooms offer ocean views.

Hotel Funky Monkey.- Located north of the village. Rooms with private and shared baths. Bar, restaurant, common area with satellite TV and pool table.

Hotel Tierra Prometida.- Located in the middle of town. Rooms with private and shared baths. The hotel has a good Bar-restaurant, hammocks corner and pool table.

In Baja Montañita

La Casa del Sol.- This is a luxuriously rustic hotel, located towards the point. All rooms have private baths, fan and Cable TV. Bar-Restaurant also available.

All restaurants in Montanita are located on the main street "Calle principal" They all offer excellent National and International specialties, the finest sea and vegetarian food. The most recommended are listed below as follows.

Funky Monkey.- Seafood, & Set meals. Located at the hotel (see above).

Tierra Prometida.- Good for Pizza and international specialties (see above Tierra Prometida hotel).

Internet.- Close to the church, in the main village.
