From Ayampe, some 6 km north is Puerto Rico and south from the town is the Alandaluz Ecological Center, a top eco-lodge also involved in ecological sound practices, including recycling. Alandaluz is located close to the Machalilla National Park, where you can see the marvelous ecosystem of dry tropical forest and also where ancient cultures lived 8000 years ago.

Some 8 kilometers north from Puerto Rico is Piqueros, where you'll find a small museum with stone artifacts and ceramics exhibits from the Valdivia, Manteña and Machalilla amongst other prehistoric cultures from the coastline.

There is a frequent bus service through Trans Manglaralto buses, which run from Jipijapa or from Manta.
